More about us

Our Impact

Through targeted programs, ONN addresses climate change resilience, empowers women and youth in the blue economy, and promotes responsible ocean management. We work closely with local stakeholders to foster sustainable fishing, eco-tourism, and marine biodiversity restoration.

At Ocean Nurture Network, we believe that lasting change begins at the community level. By building partnerships with coastal communities, indigenous groups, researchers, and policymakers, we create inclusive initiatives that honor traditional knowledge while introducing innovative practices. Our holistic approach ensures that ocean health and human livelihoods advance hand-in-hand, securing a thriving future for generations to come.

Between the Tides: Building Capacity for Climate Resilience Through Biodiversity Sampling

More than just a data collection exercise, this was a transformative encounter with nature and a hands-on lesson in resilience. From identifying species like Littorina sitkana a small yet steadfast snail that survives in some of the ocean's most dynamic environments to navigating unpredictable weather, the fieldwork mirrored the challenges posed by climate change: shifting baselines, rising seas, and ecological uncertainty.

Choking the Blue: Plastic Pollution’s Silent Siege on Aquatic Life

Plastic pollution is suffocating Kenya’s marine ecosystems. Coral reefs, which host over 500 species of fish, are being smothered by plastic bags and packaging. Mangrove forests, nature’s carbon traps and nurseries for young fish, are choked by bottles and wrappers. And the effects don’t stop at the shoreline.
